As many of you have known, the Art Gallery of Northumberland has been without a Director since September 2016. We are pleased to announce that James Campbell has accepted the Director of Visitor Services and Administration position. He will be starting his new role at the AGN February 27th, 2017.
James has a long history with the AGN. As a summer student in the 1970s he assisted John Taylor, then the “Art Gallery of Cobourg” when the gallery first moved to this location in Victoria Hall. He has co-juried at the AGN many times, and most recently lectured at the AGN on three occasions. He also recently contributed an essay on Paul Kane and his works in the AGN permanent collection, for inclusion in an Exhibition Catalogue. James has described his new position as a “homecoming” of sorts and we are very pleased to have him.
James comes to us from the VAC (Visual Art Centre) in Clarington where he worked as the Executive Director/Curator for the past 7 years. His tenure at the VAC established the gallery at a high level within the community. We are looking forward to his appointment and working with the Board to expand the gallery’s future exhibitions and programmes.
On behalf of the Board, Irena Orlowski (President)
